Chatted with a vendor tonight and saw these in her case for 25 dollars.

I am very suspicious that the faces are ivory and the small stone is actual pearl.  Can anyone help me date or direct pricing for these earrings?

It fits perfectly for the tribal category of course, but I'd hate to see her lose money on these if they are something special.

Thanks a bunch!

Julie

I hate to gross you out but did you do the tooth test on the pearl?  If you rub it on your tooth, it will have a gritty or sandy feel.  Does it feel cool to the touch?

Its a wonder women that love jewelry have any enamel left on their teeth for all the clacking and rubbing we've done.  Not very hygenic either, I'm afraid, but its still a good test lol

I had these Id'd from the jewelry ring, they are 1950 Selro.  I'm hoping that Kathy Davis will give me an approximate value on them, they just seem to be in really good shape.

They are all faux, and it's a pretty popular line - not rare at all in turns out.

My first pass with this style, really enjoyed learning it.

Added it to my blog with relevant linkage.

Thanks!

Follow up from Kathy Davis:

Hi Julie,

Those appear to be the glass faces which are most likely made in the Czech Republic.  They are probably Selro but I have no proof of the glass face jewelry being done by Selenger, although I am 99-1/% sure they are.

As far as price, they will only sell for as much as someone is willing to pay, as you know.  I've seen them sell for $10 and I've seen them go as high as $75.  It just depends on the bidder or buyer.

If you are selling them or your vendor friend is, they go better on eBay or an auction site better than they do in an online store.  They'll sell nicely at auction.   But with a store, they may sit for quite a while.

I've found Selro and Selini bidders seem to love that fight at the end of the auction for some reason.  LOL

Have a nice night,  Kathie

Kathy has devoted pages to the study of this jewelry, and as you can see, is very kind.  (not to mention super smart on this stuff!)

From Kathy's ME page:   I've done a lot of research on Paul Selenger, including old newspaper articles, the US Census, his obituary and the Social Security Death Index, just to name a few. I've tried to find out all about this wonderful man who created such gorgeous pieces for us to all enjoy and I hope everyone who collects these beautiful pieces will continute to have a pleasant experience in doing so as well.

Her pages are at: http://www.illusionjewels.com/selrojewelry/1selro-selini.html

Also, Illusion Jewels hosts this informational page:

Kathy also sells on ebay at:  http://members.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=fantasticfakes!

And last but not least, here is a quick view of the darlin' Zoey, her kitty.  Great taste in cats and jewels, what a lady!
